Friday Thanks

I’ve been laying around as much as possible today.  Last night, I lay in hotel in Tulsa with my mom and son anxious of what type of sleep the night might bring.  Hotels aren’t very conducive to sleep, and me & sleep aren’t exactly on the best of terms…especially without my mattress.

Why was I in Tulsa you ask?  I was scheduled to be interviewed for their morning show, during the 8 am hour this morning, so I took my mom and son on a short road trip.

Sleep didn’t come easy last night…in fact it didn’t come at all.  I think I would have been able to except that both persons in the room with me were not breathing well, due to the crud and it’s effects on their respiratory systems.  So I patiently lay between two noise makers all night, waiting…for sleep that eluded me until 3:00 am.  I finally fell asleep only to be woken up again by my mother turning the heat up in our room, which now made it a furnace inside.  Sleep never came back to me.

There were some upsides to this however.  I got to hear my son breathe all night, knowing he was still able to sleep through his sickness.  I was able to have some quiet time to myself, listening to all the noises around me.  Unusually so, I wasn’t frustrated like I normally would have been.  In times like this prior, I was furious that I couldn’t get sleep.   This time I was just thankful to be where I was, with my family.

Thursday night, we ate dinner with some family, who live in town…and a college friend, whom I’d not seen since 1994 – my friend, Leanna, who I’d lost touch with.  She was one of those girls, that I always missed and wondered where she was.

Thanks to technology, like FaceBook, we caught up with one another again a week ago.  It was a great night to spend time with her and her new husband.  It was just like old times, minus the alcohol and wild parties.  Same girls … same personalities  … now with way different lifestyles and attitudes.  Life is good when you find your friends are friends again after all these years.  And it didn’t hurt that my son fell in love with her.  He even told her she was ‘hubba hubba’.

Yes, I have a lot to be thankful for this Friday.

If any of you are interested in seeing the interview, you can go here.  Click on ‘Author, Kim McKay’.  BUT please keep in mind that I had little to no sleep and I was having a hard time keeping my mind ‘with it’.  Have a great Friday and remember to count your blessings.

Woke up

After these all night and morning,

we woke up to a few surprises.
Surprise # 1:

but I chose to focus on Surprise # 2:

Then I called the cops…
This is what I get for living near Hud housing with kids that are out for the summer, roaming neighborhoods looking for trouble.

Our neighborhood gets vandalized weekly and the police are so understaffed that they can’t do anything. So my husband and I have decided to get a infrared camera to post under the eaves of our home, to catch the little buggars who feel they can egg our cars, write bad words or obscene gestures on our driveways, race down our streets/through our yards, and bash and uproot our mailboxes. Maybe then the police can do something.

Chinamen’s Curse

I just wanted to share a personal story with you all to implore you to please please watch what you buy from China.

My mom wore some new pajama’s that had already been laundered. The next day her body was covered in red puffiness. She told me that it looked like she had a sunburn from her neck down. She initially thought it was a food reaction, but she ate nothing that was suspect.

I told her to check the label of her new pajamas as the redness effected specific areas of her body, that was covered by them. She did…and they read ‘Made in China’.

The next day she went to the doctor because she started puffing up and getting more splotchy. This is after a day of being away from the garment in suspect. He confirmed after seeing her that it was due to the pesticides used on the fabric in her pajamas. She was having a reaction to the poisons used.

Yesterday, day 3, she was so swollen and achy that she couldn’t get rings on her fingers or shoes on her feet. Today, day 4, she’s in so much pain internally that she can’t move or even hold anything in her hands without pain.

The doctor gave her medicines that have helped her but she’s under a careful eye….mine and the doctors. I am writing this to warn you that the ‘Made in China’ info out there is real. China IS STILL using harmful chemicals on and in our products that are shipped to our country and purchased and used in OUR homes.

Please if your label, for any product, reads ‘Made in China’ please don’t buy it. Don’t put clothes on your own back and especially not your children. Don’t do it! It’s not just something you hear about in the news…it’s hitting home!

My mom is having severe medical issues because China isn’t watching or caring how they’re producing their products, and the OUR OWN COUNTRY isn’t protecting us!

Rant….just a little

Tam posted today on something that just got me in a little rant mode.  Although I commend American Idol for their “Gives Back” show in getting our nation involved in doing something…anything to help those in need across our own nation and abroad, I’m more than upset at the moment.

Censorship is necessary in some forms so that our kids aren’t exposed to certain messages in the media and film industry.  However American Idol is supposed to be a family friendly show, where the whole family can watch and be entertained.

Last night they targeted their acts to the younger audiences, as the music industry is tailored to the younger generation.  These stars mentioned over and over, “Kids break out your piggy banks, parents get out your wallets.”

Obviously it’s a show where kids will be watching and tuning in…..

YET they censor the name Jesus, and leave in words like bitch and ass???  Come on give us parents, Christian and non, a break from vulgar language with our kids in the room!!  Seriously????

Miracles all around us

capt12039deb012545e99c0d74d081bb1365not_dead_nyr102.jpgMany of you, who read me, know how many miracles have happened just in my little life, let alone the ones that go unnoticed every day in everyone else’s lives. You also know I’m a big believer in giving God the glory for every little blessing, to give credit where it’s due.

This story blew me away as I saw it on the news yesterday. I provided that link for you to be amazed as well. It’s just another sign that God is alive and well, and at work in all our lives.

In the midst of young Zach being pronounced brain dead, as there was zero blood flow in his brain, this young man was provided a huge miracle in being able to come back and be with his family today.

The news last night showed his grandmother crying, “Lord he’s too young to take, please help us.” Another family member, who prayed the same thing decided to run his pocket knife up the sole of Zach’s foot, when it zerked free from the sharp jab. Once they saw the obvious movement, he poked underneath his fingernail in his hand which resulted in Zach throwing his arm across his body to retract from the knife.

Doctors had NO explainations as he should be dead. They kept him on life support and told his family not to get their hopes too high as if he recovered chances were he’d be extremely brain damaged. Today Zach is fully mobile, talking, and can recall the doctors pronouncing him dead in his hospital room. His response to that, as Yahoo reports?

“I’m glad I couldn’t get up and do what I wanted to do,” he said. “Probably would have been a broken window that went out.”

Here is a huge miracle…go read about it here.

Fridays are full of Blessings…Faithful Friday 2-29-08

This week has been a crazy one, and not all good either but blessings have been abundant none the less. I needed (let me repeat…needed) certain clients to come through for me this month in order to make my numbers. If I don’t sell, I don’t get a paycheck. If I don’t sell a certain number, I get penalized at my office in many ways. Needless to say my month didn’t come together. It seemed every client who was a sure thing this month had extra ordinary things come through in their lives which left them unable to commit to me.

One client only had two documents/reports to get to me so I could process her account. She ended up at court at the last minute without a break for over a week. So what we started at the first of the month, will be continued to next month. The list of random acts of interruptus-workus keeps on piling on.

I was in a car accident yesterday, which leaves me without my car and a stiff back. I am tired and still have a lot to get done today.

Many of you reading this would say…Yikes–what a horrible week. Quite the opposite in fact…it’s been a life filled week as life happens every day, but it’s been such a blessed week for me.

In result of my car accident, many wonderful things took place. I’ll list a few here, but you can read all about it at my wornoutwoman blog. The few good things I walked away from yesterday’s accident were these:

**First and foremost, I was in the car solo so my son didn’t even enter into the equation. Praise God!

**That young ‘could care less’ kid, who hit me, drove away with a huge fat ticket! Cha-ching! (My husband says I sound like the woman in Fried Green Tomatoes with this statement.)

**My dealership gave me a loaner for a couple of days till I get my rental. That’s two days of free transportation. Another Praise God. In my financial situation, I don’t need anything extra to add on.

**My back is hurt…but nothing is broken.

**I got some quality one on one time with my hubbie. We ate Mexican food until the tow truck picked up my poor Passat, and I drank a margarita that tasted like Lysol.

(Yes it was a little hole in the wall, but it was a date with my husband and I enjoyed every minute of it….even if I drank Lysol sip by sip.)

As far as work goes, I just have to trust God that He is working for me with those clients that are a little slower than I’d like. I know they’ll come in next month, so I pray it’ll offset the deficit from this month.

The blessings this week in my work world:

**God opened a door for me that I won’t divulge any info on right now, as I can’t, but it will lead to the end of my financial issues in the near future. Hallelujah on that one.

**A huge huge client, that I thought would never had a chance of coming through, called me back this week. I proposed a pretty expensive process to them last month, and they’re ready to move forward. If this deal gets signed…again I can pay off part of my debt with that one.

**I gained another client for my photography business for a spring family shoot. The referrals are starting to kick in from the previous clients, so that’s a small blessing but an amazing one none the less. Every little bit helps.

**The last 1/2 chapter I had to finish my manuscript is done … in my head. Now I just have to put it on paper. I had an a-ha moment and 2 a.m. where God gave me insight to what would work best. Yeah, now I can tie it all together this weekend.

I always find that God closes the right doors and opens the most unexpected ones. I’m always amazed at his patience with me in my need to know everything NOW. He gently guides me through ‘the process’ and evolves me to be exactly where I need to be before revealing bits and parts of His plan for me. I’m so humbled when I see how perfect his way was, and how horrible it could have been if I hadn’t waited.

We’ve truly got an amazing God people. One that loves us no matter what short comings we have, and we’ve got plenty. One that shelters us if we look to Him, even in the worst of times. One that holds us and our future smack dab in the center of His hand. He sent his spirit to guide us daily…and I’m so thankful that God loves me enough to let me return to Him over and over and over.

I was talking to a blogging buddy, Tam, this week. She is a great praying friend and a sister in Christ. She said something amazing that stuck with me. She said I’ve been in the season [of winter — financially] for a reason and she mentioned how exciting it was to see God working to bring me out of it. She’s right. I’ve been stuck for over a year, in a very difficult place, but I’ve known the whole time that God was teaching me and using it for His good. It is exciting to see how He’s working in my life and my season.

Please start looking to your blessings through the midst of whatever season you’re in. I promise you it can change your life. If you’d agree to post your blessings on Friday, I’ll send you the code to this pretty little button at the top of my page. It will link back to my page, and I’ll know to go read up on your blessings.

Monday’s update

God is so good.  Each night, for the last night, I’ve asked for very specific things in my son’s recovery.  Each night and day after, my prayers have been answered.  So thank you to all of you who have been praying.  I can feel that my son and I have been lifted up in prayer, and it’s through God’s grace that he’s improved so dramatically.

So far he’s not had an allergic reaction to Cephzil.  His cough is almost gone, and his fever is banished for good!  Hallelujah!

2nd prayer request needed:  The doctor also put him on an allergy medicine.  One of the side effects is bad dreams for children.  Random enough for ya?  I thought so.  Anyways, he’s been a very active sleeper since taking this med which has left me with barely any sleep for 6 nights.   Mommy’s a tired girl!  Please pray for comforting dreams and quiet sleep.  I know that is a random request, but I thought I’d throw it out there.
