Sweet sweet Fridays…

This was a sweet week as I got to spend it all with my son. I’ve been so blessed to have such a special and unique child, who just brightens everyone’s day. He truly cares how I feel and wants to make sure I’m taken care of. He is a nurturer…a comedian…a math genius…a musician…and a strong Christian – all at five years old.

We were talking this morning after he called me into his room, after he woke up. We have our little word games we play. He likes to tease me.
“Mommy ask me any question.”
I’ll start asking random things, and no matter what I ask – the answer is ‘One Million’, said with certainty. We both crack up laughing and the game goes on.

This morning our chatter consisted of:
“Mommy, you have a husband.”
“Yes.”
“You have a daughter in law.”
“What? Since when did you get married?” (giggles ensue)
“Oh don’t worry mommy – she’s a good Christian girl.”
“What’s her name, and when do I meet her.”
“Twinkle Twinkle Little Star!”
“What? You’re being silly.”
“OF course! (he likes that word) I’m not married, I’m just a kid”
“You won’t get married until I’m a lot older?”
“When you’re in heaven?”
“Nooo, I will be here a lot longer. I won’t go to heaven until I’m really old.”
“Yah mom, you’re not gonna reach your deadline for while.”

My little sweet boy is all the blessing I need to be thankful to God for all He’s done for me. He’s growing up so fast and so strong. He wants to change the world and someday I know he will. God has big plans for that little guy.

Friday Blessings

This week was a crazy one. Last week I posted that my clothes dryer broke and the fact we got another one free within a day. Then this week our garage door broke and my hair dryer went short of catching on fire.

Well my father knows a great company, who fixed my door and he’s basically calling it my Christmas gift. Thank you God for wonderful people who come in the time of need.

I made enough tips yesterday at work to buy a new hair dryer. I got sat with a big top, which has gratuity automatically added and then they all left me extra money as a tip. It was an awesome feeling just to walk into Target and know I wouldn’t have to stress on how to pay for for what I needed.

My husband and I decided that I should work at the restaurant at nights to make more $$$, which will be a bonus blessing just in time for Christmas. This leaves my days open to substitute teach.

My rankings on Amazon have been really good considering my book hasn’t been out but a month. It’s so excited to me to watch the numbers climb, recede, and then climb again. I pray that God continues to bless this books path and the success it deserves.
I shipped it to a buddy of mine in London, who owns a production company. I’m sure my book won’t be his cup of tea, as he’s more of a Martin Scorses type of guy, and my book is more geared for the Lifetime Movie Network or Hallmark, but hey I’m just blessed to have a friend in the business who supports me and wants to read my work. I shipped the book out this week, so time will tell if he and his lovely wife at least enjoy the read.

I’ve have two photo-shoots this week, and scheduled a wedding for the end of the month. God has been very faithful in keeping me busy this holiday season with family photos. It’s a huge blessing as we really need it right now.

My husband thought his car was towed last night, or stolen…but alas he’s decided he just going senile as his car was only 100 yards away from where he ‘thought’ he parked. This blessing is obvious — the fact that I had a good laugh on my husband was an extra one! On his way out to work this morning I told him not to get lost is his work parking lot. He didn’t think it was too funny — but I did.

Hope you’re all enjoying your Friday. Take a little time to list out your blessings for the week. You’ll be glad you did. And don’t forget to give thanks to God for each and every one!

She likes me

My son has a few admirers in his Kindergarten class. We were driving to school this morning, and he blurted out with, “Mom … Ashley and Hannah like me, but I like Isabella!”

Me: “Reaallly? So how do you know when someone likes you?”
T: “Well Hannah grabs me and won’t let go. And Ashley always tries to sit by me.”
Me: “So they tease you huh?”
T: “Yes.”
Me: “How do you show Isabella that you like her?”
T: “I tell her she’s pretty.”
Me: “What does she do then?”
T: “She just says ‘thank you’ and thats it.”

Interpretation: You always want what you can’t have. Men, or boys, obviously start early. They don’t want the women that smother them, but want the pretty ones that ignore them.

Hmmm…if only I’d figured this out in high school!!!

Tuesday Tid Bits

So far this week I’ve had a lot of little funnies from my son. Every child at this age is candidly refreshing whether they know it or not, but he’s so profound that it really cracks me up.

To name a few for your reading pleasure:
——-
It was sprinkling last night as we left the restaurant. He opened his mouth to get a drop but they got in his eyes instead.

He yelled to the sky and everyone with in miles of being earshot, “Thank you my Lord for the eye drops!”
——-
He peered in at my face as I laughed at something funny he said, and squinted. In surprise, he said,
“Oh mommy I do believe you’re getting your first wrinkle!”

(gee thanks son) grimace before laughter
——-
I got a big spider bite back on my hip/butt zone area last night, which needed some Cortizone cream. I went to do my business first and was sitting on my throne in the privacy of my bathroom, when my son came running in to bring me Desitin, as thats what we use for his bug bites.

He leaned in behind the toilet to try to take care of my bite, with a lump of Desitin on his fingers.

Me–“Son, I appreciate you, but please don’t do that right now. I need a little privacy.”
little T—“Okay mommy, I won’t touch your private butt.”
Me—-“Thank you for trying to help me though. I just need a few minutes.”
little T—“Well then, just let me see those beautiful big brown eyes of yours.”

I couldn’t help but oblige as he was being so sweet. He just is such a love, even if I was in the bathroom needing privacy.
—–
Every night we say our prayers, and we rotate turns. Me, my son, and then my husband.
My husband gets wordy sometimes in trying to pray about things my son should learn about, which is great. It’s just wonderful that his daddy is involved in prayer time no matter what he’s saying or praying. I’m probably a little to wordy too, but I pray more about things of the heart. I want to give thanks for all our family members, their health, and protection.

However, my son has told me next time to shorten it up like he does…
“Thank you Jesus for all of our family and our people. Thank you for helping me sleep through the night. Amen.”
He’s not one to waste words.

A few reasons why…

Marriage is a tough road. Most couples focus so much on the wedding, that they forget to prepare for life with their spouse. They don’t think to remember that there will be horrifically tough times when you see your partner in a light, you never expected. In 8 short years of marriage, and 10 years total with my husband…we’ve seen each other through a lot.

The life of our child.

The flat line of my husband’s heart, and the miracle that he lived through a horrible experience.

The death of loved ones.

Financial strain.

Financial surplus (still waiting to have that one back).

Proud moments, when the other shines in the spotlight.

Sad moments, when the other almost breaks in defeat.

Tough times, when the other fights through something.

Life throws us all curve balls, and I just don’t know how couples make it without Christ as their center. I know some do…so I know it happens. BUT do they have the peace that only Christ can give?

I just wanted to take a few minutes to tell my adoring husband how much I love him today. And here’s a few silly reasons why…

*Because he leaves me a dry towel hanging in the bathroom every morning for my shower.

*Because he lets me do whatever home improvement project my heart desires, trusting my instincts.

*Because his chest puffs up when he tells people about my book.

*Because he spends so much quality time with our son, who in turn adores his daddy.

*Because he tells me I’m sexy even when I feel I look my worst.

*Because he trys to make me laugh when I’m mad. Try’s being the operative word! Sometimes he succeeds 🙂

*Because he remembers the smallest details and surprises me down the road with little things.

*Because he teaches my son about the most amazing things…from sports to life in general.

*Because he’s himself and that never changes, no matter who he’s talking too…even if resonates a little too loud…I still love him.

Learned Behavior

My family is a hoot. Seriously we laugh most all the time. My son has the same sense of humor and his aptitude for picking things up is amazing. He’s five and nothing gets past the little dude.

Tonight we all ate dinner after his T-ball game. (He played really well by the way. He hit on his first try and scored 2 runs. He got one runner out at first as well…not bad for his first game ever.)

As we were eating, I asked my son to use his ‘inside’ voice. He’s tend to be really loud, like my husband, who’s voice is deep and loud at all times. Some people just project whether they mean to or not.

This started a whole conversation that spun off toward my mom, who has the opposite problem. She doesn’t project and sometimes hard to hear, even when yelling upstairs for my dad. Of course we all ganged up on her, and in turn she made reference to my dad again by saying, “No, he just doesn’t ever hear me. No matter what.”

My sister’s response, “Um mom I think that’s learned behavior.” (selective hearing)

My son was taking it all in and laughing at my mom, just like we were. The conversation then turned to his soccer game. I reminded him to tell about his goal he scored on Saturday morning. He was telling my sister’s boyfriend, Bob, all about it. Then my sister switched gears to ask if he picked up any balls to get anyone out tonight (T-ball).

My son: “No, you’re not allowed to pick up the ball.” (in reference to soccer)
My sister: “What?”
Me: “Honey, she’s asking about T-ball.”
(confused look on my son’s face)
My sister’s boyfriend: “Dude. You might as well give up, you’ll never understand them. They’re (women) gonna confuse you for the rest of your life.”
My son: LAUGHING – “That’s learned behavior.”

We all cracked up. Yup…that is learned behavior. He might as well learn now that men are from Venus and Women rule the planet.

I hope you all have a great night!!

Fridays are Full of Blessings 3-7-08

Each week I’ve been encouraging readers to count their blessings, especially through life’s madness. We can all find reasons to highlight the negative as it happens every day, but God gives us so much to be thankful for if we only look for it. Even if it’s small, seeing it and acknowledging it can give you something to get you through the day.

This weeks blessings for me come easy.

**Everyone for the most part is healthy in our house. We’re past the crud and finally on the home stretch.

**Tomorrow is my son’s birthday party and half have RSVP’d. It’s going to be a great turn out for my son at 16+ kids.

**I’m driving a fun car while mine’s in the shop. I was supposed to get a Ford Fiesta, but the rental car place didn’t have any lower end cars when I showed up. I got a SUV upgrade for the same price and a Fred Flinstone runner.

**We re-arranged my son’s room, which gives him more floor room to play. Less toys are making their way into the living room…which means less clutter for me to pick up.

**I got to talk to one of my best friends this week on the phone. She’s known me forever, and it’s so easy just to be when I talk to her.

**I’ve got some really exciting things on the horizon, that I know are part of God’s plan for me. I can’t wait to list them on any upcoming Friday’s to come.

**My husband, although stressed, has been so sweet. He loves to joke around with me…I’m blessed that he never gives up on me or on us.

**My son only had one tantrum this week! YAY! Huge blessing for me as he’s going through a phase right now…and not a fun one.

I encourage you again to track your blessings for the week, and BE thankful for them. It helps me some days ‘just to get through the day’…and other days it helps me soar. If you’re able to…let me know you’re doing this so I can read up on yours. Have a great weekend!

Rain Check on Valentines Day

Photobucket

My husband is such a quirky but love-able guy. For anyone that knows him, they always ask me…’does he make you laugh…like…all the time?” I just raise my eyebrows and give them the answer they want to hear, “uh huh.”

He’s the guy who sings a song lyric when something happens that similar to a song. He’s the guy who always has the quippy line in a group that will inevitably make everyone laugh every time. He’s the comedian. And not the annoying kind either…he’s just genuinely likes to laugh and makes others do so too. His voice is louder than most, so even when he’s trying to be quiet he can be heard across a stadium. When he gets on the cell phone, he proceeds to get louder…like someone can’t hear him. LOL. I shake my head most days.

At home, he’s a little more subdued. The energy it takes to be him, is exhausting I think. He’s actually a loner, like me. He’s not ‘that’ guy at home, and I’m glad I would need a serious break from that energy at home. Yet, he still finds funny ways to make me laugh. With a comment about something, in only language he and I speak. When you’re close, you speak your own language that no one else is privy too. It’s something just for two.

He does things he knows will annoy me just to get me out of my grouchy mood. You’d think it would back fire, and although I may growl and bark, inside I’m laughing 🙂 because I know it’s all in good natured fun. So does he.

He’s always the one who does things to surprise me. Take for example our honeymoon: He saved for a year to be able to afford the nicest 5 star hotel in Disneyland so we’d have a honeymoon to always remember. Although we could have never afforded something like that, and probably never will again…he toiled and slaved extra jobs to save up and pay in cash.

He makes mental notes of things I like, and when my birthday or Christmas roll around (even if it’s 6 months later or longer) that gift will be wrapped and waiting. He knows I never buy for myself so it’s a safe bet that he’ll get me something I wouldn’t buy for me. He’s a thoughtful and generous guy.

Most days I feel like the neglectful one in our relationship. I don’t feel like I measure up in comparison to what I should be for him. So this Valentines Day I asked my mom to keep my son overnight, so I could surprise him with a date night just for us two. This is something we don’t do much of because of our schedules. He works most week days and weekends, so it’s hard to get couple time.

Great idea in theory, but my son came down with an extreme case of Bronchitis plus there’s an ice storm. So last night, Friday night, our date night got canceled. I feel so bad that I couldn’t do something special for him … again.

I know we’ll reschedule it soon. All that really matters is that our son gets better and we’re home safe…all three of us together.

If you’re wondering about the picture above. That was my Valentines Day card from my husband. It read, “I love you from the bottom of my heart!” What’s so ironic about this card, is that he’s done this exact thing to me….and I’ve had that exact expression on my face. He couldn’t have found a more perfect card. Again he’s ‘that’ guy who has the right thing to say, to make everyone laugh. He makes me laugh and I love him.

*post note — he just walked in and commented on the card I posted, “Hey you look hot there.”  (rolling my eyes)

Faithful Friday 2-1-08

Photobucket

For the last week or so I’ve let stress spiritually deplete me. It’s not that I’m not still looking to God for answers, or having faith that He will provide…because He will. I’ve just not felt like kneeling to pray, or actively taking part in our relationship. I’ve not purposely looked to Him as I’ve just felt a little to worn thin. I think we all get this way from time to time.

My dog woke me up unusually early this morning to answer nature’s call, and I begrudgingly turned off our alarm and walked him outside. You can’t just open a door to let him out to do his own business…you have to walk out with him to keep him company. Let’s just say he’s a little co-dependent since my son was born.

As we both returned to the back door, I turned to see the most amazing sunrise that glistened on all our neighbor’s roof tops. I could almost hear God whispering, Good Morning…this is for you. I was immediately awake…not that the cold temperatures couldn’t have done it…but His greeting me this morning made me thankful to be in the right place to behold His beautiful world.

This morning my son got up early, b/c I did. Our clocks our intertwined. When I sleep he does…when I awake…he does…it’s weird, but we’ve always been that way. Because he got up early, we were able to spend some time in the snow this morning. Instead of hopping into the car immediately for school, he ran his little legs off in our front yard yelling, “Weeeeee….I’m making a path to great destinations!”

Sometimes it takes small things like these to wake us up spiritually. Yes, life isn’t always perfect and neither are our jobs, but the simple things in life are so sweet. Like God’s good morning message to all of us…or our children’s laughter…or the subtle messages that lie in both.

My path with my career may be unknown at the moment, but I’m taking the steps to do the best I can. Yes, I start over financially every month, being on straight commission….Yes, it seems I never can get ahead….but I’m staying on path to get to my great destination. I just hope I don’t fall and slip on the ice like my son did this morning. 😉

He was so cute as he realized once he stepped off the grass & onto driveway that he was in for a fall. His little cowboy boots slipped out from under him and he fell on his side. I waited to see if he hurt himself or if he would get up….he got up. I couldn’t help but giggle at him. He’s got to learn the hard way about ice and snow…you can’t warn them without them fully understanding the gravity of slippery ice. No pun intended.

I dropped him at his school this morning. He had a hooded sweatshirt, his jacket, his boots, and sunglasses on. He double hooded himself with his jacket, and said, “Momma, I’m off the hook!” Now I’m not really sure he knows what that means, but he heard it from D.J., a cars toy at target, and ever since everything’s ‘off the hook’.

I hope your Friday is off the hook. I’m going to make sure I make the most of mine.
