6 week contest

Hey I thought of a little contest I could start through this blog. For those of you who’ve not read the book yet, this will be incentive hopefully for you, as well, to go get a copy.

In the next 6 weeks, I will be running a contest that everyone can participate in. The only catch is that you ‘have’ to have read Finding Kylie.

For those of you anxiously awaiting the sequel…here’s some good news. I’ve got 50 chapters outlined and about 20 chapters written.

So what’s the contest?

For the next 6 weeks, you’re to email me once you’ve read the book – and tell me who your favorite character is from Finding Kylie and why. Tell me one thing in particular which made you fall in love with that character and why it defines them. I’ll know if you’ve truly read the book by how you answer this challenge.

I will be choosing a top 15 out of all the emails sent to me based on your thoughtful answers and heartfelt responses. Out of the top 15 persons, I will do a random drawing. The winning person, who’s email I choose, will get their name in the next book, Facing Redemption.

It may not be a main character’s name, but it will have a prominent scene. And you’ll get a mention in the forward in the book. For those of you who have read it, you get the first jump at sending my your emails. For those who have not, if you’re able to go to a Barnes & Noble – ask them to order your copy in. It’s that simple. If you’re no where near a Barnes and Noble than you can go through Amazon.

Here is the link to buy Finding Kylie.

I look forward to your emails.
Send them to:
Thank you for your support! And I can’t wait to hear from you!

Fridays Bless Me Every Week

Today is the day I post my blessings, and how I look forward to this. Some weeks are harder than others, since it’s a choice to have the peace of God’s love and thankfulness in His blessings, and some weeks just blow me away.

Those that read me know I’ve just come back from a huge blessing in my vacation. I hadn’t been home in 12 long years to Oahu, and hadn’t visited Maui since I was 5. The fact that my son is now five and I took him and my husband to my home was HUGE for me. The obvious blessing was being in a tropical low key, laid back, beautiful environment. Who couldn’t see the blessing in that and thank God for His creation? The not so obvious blessing and the main one for me was to experience it all again as a 5 year old through my son, which really took me home ten-fold. The fact that my auntis, uncles, and cousins got to meet my family is a huge blessing.

Today as I look toward this past week my heart is somewhat heavy as I know I’ve not treated my husband as well as I should have this week. The phrase, submit to your husband keeps going through my mind. This is often a inflammatory biblical instruction for a lot of female liberals. What does it mean…submit? To me, it’s not letting a man walk all over me, as some people like to twist it. To me, it’s having compassion for the man God has chosen for me…letting go of some of my own control and giving my husband his way more than I choose my own.

I’ve been very controlling this week and I don’t feel good about it. What is the blessing in this? That I have a wonderful husband!! He puts up with me and loves me…frustrated or not. I know I need to make it up to him and I’m blessed that he sticks around so I can.

I’ve had no job this whole month…I’m unemployed! HA! How cool is it that this is NOT stressing me out. <—-(blessings right there) This whole month is the only month, before my son starts Kindergarten that I’ll have had all this time with him. I had no one calling me for work…well not for most of the month….so my time was truly “MY” time with my family with no interruptions. I’ve never experienced that freedom before, so this has been a huge blessing.

Now that it’s back to reality and the bills need two incomes…what am I going to do?? I’ve been wondering how I’m going to supplement our household income since I quit my sales career. I have my photography business that I started last October, but that’s not going to take off overnight.

This week my son’s school hired me as a substitute teacher. I turned my new hire packet in this week. I was told that it my be pretty infrequent for the first couple of months, but after that get ready for it to get crazy. I’m not sure how it’s going to pay, but I know God will provide. I’ve also run across a couple of jobs to pay the bills for the next couple of months until teaching kicks in. I’m not sure if they’d be something I’d be interested in, but it’s what they provide that counts. This is the first time in my life that I didn’t have to have something ‘professional’ working that went along with my degree. I finally realize….MY JOB DOESN’T DEFINE ME! I do…being a Christian mom, wife, daughter, sister, niece, grand-daughter, and friend defines me. This has been a blessing to get this.

Today would have been my Grandfather’s 100th birthday. If you’ve not read about him, you should…because he was and is still, to me, an amazing human being. He died in my arms, and I saw him see the Lord first hand. Seeing his pupils dialate, his breathe quicken, and his head pop up after being in a coma scared me at first. Hearing the monitors scream at me that his heart rate was bottoming out freaked me out. BUT seeing the look on his face when he saw angels come for him…there’s no way I could doubt that he saw the face of Jesus. And even though terrifying for me at the age of 19 or 20, I know this is a blessing now. For one because they say, those that have come back from the dead, that they see their surroundings when they leave their bodies…so this means my papa knew I was with him too.

You see I got there too late to see him before he went into his coma. He went into his comatose state asking for Kimmy and wanted me. I was selfishly on Spring Break in Texas…but took the first flight out as soon as I heard he went into the hospital. I was just too late in saying my goodbye. I have the peace and blessing of today, his 100th birthday, of that lovely man and his love for me. He was my role model growing up, in what to look for in a man. He was truly one of a kind. Please honor his memory today and go read this post about him and my wonderful grandmother, as she too, was truly one amazing lady. For those that don’t know, he was a photographer and the reason the love of photography is in my blood and heart. I hope he’d be proud that I’m trying to make a living at it.

Lastly the fact that we all came home from a long strenuous trip unharmed and well is a huge blessing. Other than my husband’s small fall, which we think he cracked something…we’re all fared well. My son is an amazing traveler! And no one got sick. Praise God for that!

Thank you for tuning in to my little corner of the web world. Next week is the last week of this contest. You can view the video at the post below to see who’s almost winning. If it stays this close in the running, I may have to extend this by another week to get a clear defined winner. I pray you’ll consider counting your blessings…it truly IS life changing. Just ask Terri…you can read why it’s changed her outlook, here.

I think I’ll leave you with a pic I took of my husband and son, on Maui. Have a great weekend all!

Awesome Favorites

From time to time I list a few of my favorite things here. I haven’t done it in a while, and when Yvette at Fresh Wind Ministries awarded me with this lovely blog bling, I thought it was time to do it again.

Yvette is one that is very in tune with her path when it comes to God’s will for her. She’s a heartfelt writer, so it is an honor that she bestowed this upon me. Please take time to stop by her site.

To forward this on to a few of my favorites, although I have many. I could only choose a few. In no particular order…here goes:

* Joe, at Joeprah. An awesome blogger, who gives daily advice on everything from parenting to blogging tips. His humor keeps it fresh, and his creativeness will keep you coming back.

* Tara, atIf Mom says OK, is always a great bet. Each time I click to her site, I always find something of interest from family, to pets, to interesting tid bits about herself. Not to mention she and I have both have a chocolate lab, named Hershey! Gotta love a girl who loves her dogs and gives them cool names. It’s her blog-anniversary, so stop by and congratulate her.

* Total Transformation is another favorite place because he is just so darned like-able. He’s always striving for better health, physical and otherwise, and challenges his readers to do the same. I love reading his blog for that alone, but know he’s also blogging about his journey on the road to adoption. Not to mention his FAT Fat Tuesday Funny Acronym Tuesdays.

And a few of my own personal favorite things: Yay! I love this part!

My favorite tank, shown here, that I got in Laguna Beach. The straps are just a little too long for me, so I layer it with my other favorite white tank, and the look is so comfy and cool. Plus it has a dolphin on it, in my favorite color, purple! Yup, this is a must for my summer wardrobe along with my favorite jeans, from the Buckle.

Let me tell you that the BKE jeans, at the Buckle, are the bomb. For anyone like me who is thin, long legged, and small waisted…they fit like a dream. Most jeans bell out at the waist and never fit comfortably. These hug in the right places, with out suffocation. They also are low rise without showing butt crack or front crack.

They make me feel very sexy, while still giving me the option to class them up with any top of my choice. They’re the perfect dress me up or down item.

Another new favorite?? You all know I’m not a huge drinker. I’ve had my past where I did partake quite heavily, but when I returned to the Lord and His will for my life, heavy drinking wasn’t part of it.

That being said, I see nothing wrong with a margarita with dinner from time to time. I used to never be a wine fan, until I found this lablel: Tidal School Vineyards. I’ve not sampled all of their wines, as I’m again not a drinker. But one wine I recently sampled at a tasting, through a work event, stood out and I’m a fan

It’s their Rasperry White Zin and it’s slightly sweet without being too sweet. It’s smooth and goes down easy. It’s one that I could easily like too much, which is why I will limit myself to two glasses if I ever have an occasion to have a drink again.

My last favorite to list?

My favorite writer, Ted Dekker. He’s like James Patterson and Frank Peretti(two of my other favorites) rolled into one times 100!

He’s inventive and a extremely intelligent writer, while showing the world that Christian writers can have the most amazing talent out there. He takes stories from the Bible and modernizes them, while throwing his amazing imagination in with a twist.

His books go past the classic good versus evil, as translates them into the spiritual side of things … writing with a Christian heart. I first read Black, Red, and White, his trilogy and was immediately hooked. I just picked another, When Heaven Weeps, from our church’s library and am so engrossed in it. I highly recommend him to any and all that are looking for something to blow them away.

I hope you all have a great day and are working on your gratitude journals for tomorrow’s contest. Remember Faithful Friday’s contest will end up in presenting the winner with an autographed copy of my book, when it releases. I know some of you that said you were going to do this, haven’t linked to my site when you posted last week. Make sure you link to me, so I know you’re participating. Otherwise I may not see that you’re taking part in the contest. If you need help figuring out how to do that let me know.

See how Leblanc linked to me in his second paragraph? He posted the button, but also linked to me. This will be the only way I have track of you, so remember to do so. If you need a refresher on the contest rules, go here!

Tomorrow’s Contest

Those that read me know I always try to count my blessings through thick and thin. I feel it ‘s not only a good philosophy to have..whether you’re a Christian or not. For me, I know it’s essential to give God the glory for all that’s good in my life. I know this is life changing and I want to pass this gift on to you, who will take on the challenge.

Tomorrow starts a 6 week contest. Use the Count Your Blessings button in your Friday posts, and put a link in your post to my site obviously….but most importantly …. every Friday COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS in a BIG way. From the small insignificant ones (although I am a believer of all blessings being big and significant) to the large in your face ones!

You will be amazed at how many things you see that are good in your life…it will change your outlook!

What’s the prize? Well the obvious one…your own piece of peace each day in recognizing how many good things are in your life…but I’m also going to throw in a copy of my book, autographed. When it releases this fall, I will sign it and send it to you.

So tomorrow please start your Friday blogging gratitude journal, your Faithful Friday blog, your Count your Blessings posts….whatever you want to call it—just link it to me and let me see how many people you track to my site.

I will track this contest two ways:

A) You have to have blogged EVERY FRIDAY.

B) You must have the highest amounts of hits to my site.

Faithful Friday contest

Sorry guys–I’m a little late…2 days late to post my blessings for last week.

So many awesome things have been happening that I almost feel guilty posting so many hoorrah’s. Then I look back to the last 3 years of my life, where there was plenty of the opposite in my life and I remember that I still found ways to count my blessings. (beating myself up) I should not take anything away from what God is doing in my life at the moment, as He’s always so good…but now at this time in life…is stearing me toward so many wonderful things. Humble and thankful is what I should feel…not guilt.

Although on top of a mountain now, I’ve seen my share of valleys and they sure will come again. Valleys are where we really learn to trust Him and His love for us. For without those valleys…the mountains would not be quite as sweet. And sweetness is what I have for the moment…praise God and all His glory.

I know first hand how life changing it can be to focus on your blessings in the midst of the lows in life. I’ve seen plenty of lows, and to simply survive I had to cast my eyes and heart on Jesus to make it through to the other side. To see what you’re blessed with DAILY is one of the most important lessons, and to thank God for those being included with it.

I’m going to start a contest for the summer, or for 6 weeks of it anyway. I’m going to challenge ALL of you to start posting on Fridays and link back to me, so that I know you’re participating. Each week, count everything you’ve been blessed with from large to small…even if you’ve got to really search for something….post it!!! And don’t stop there, I want you to encourage you to invite your friends/readers to do this to, and ask them to link back to me. I will keep track of how many links come from your pages.

The contest will be measured by how many links you provide, and how many Fridays you, yourself, participate in. I want to read about your weeks and your blessings. I want to see how God is changing your outlook in life. I want to know what blessings you find, even if it’s a simple one…sometimes those are the best!

This contest will start July 4th, a day a celebration here in the U.S., and it will end August 8th. I will post on Friday, the 4th, what the grand prize will be, but the obvious gift will be what you give yourself by utilizing this contest for your own outlook.

I look forward to reading all about your blessings! Yay!
